On Thursday, April 22, Root Division will host TASTE 2010, a unique and sumptuous evening celebrating the beauty of art & food in San Francisco. TASTE 2010 will feature 8-10 acclaimed local chefs, 16-20 visual artists, and live music, for a night of inspired food, drink, art, & music. This event presents guests with daring culinary delights and a visual feast, joining them together in glorious form on-site in Root Division's gallery & studios. As this year’s event coincides with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, the theme -- A Garden of Earthly Delights -- reminds us to celebrate the Earth’s bounty & springtime abundance.

NERT will stage a city-wide drill on April 17th and you can help!

NERT needs volunteers to play the role of victims in the city-wide drill at Everett Middle School on Saturday, April 17th. You will be assigned a particular injury and be made up with theatrical bandages. It is a fun opportunity to hone your acting skills and help out a great cause. Practice makes perfect. People of all ages are welcome. There is nothing like an actual hands-on experience to prepare us for what we may encounter in a real life disaster. In the CCLR TV video "Revitalizing Hunter's Point Shipyard" members of the Bayview Neighborhood of southeastern San Francisco share the new hope and opportunity that the Hunter's Point mixed-use redevelopment will bring.

This significant project promises economic vitality, job creation, affordable housing, and recreation opportunities for their community. By restoring the underutilized and blighted site to productive use, the Shipyard will be revitalized to the economic driver it was before closing in 1974.

Play it safe and take a few minutes to check, repair, and replace the smoke detectors in your home and workplace. Remember – smoke detectors save lives!

A "Fresh" Start in the Bayview

Great news for property owners and prospective buyers in the Bayview. Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, the self described "7-Eleven meets Whole Foods" supermarket chain, is set to open a store here in the Bayview on 3rd Street at Carroll. This new chain spent a good deal of time considering a site in the Tenderloin, but ultimately lost interest due to crime. The Tenderloin's loss is the Bayview's gain!

This is yet another indication of our fine city expanding new development, new business and new interest further to the south and east. Another reason to check out the Bayview, where single family homes in the $500K and $600K range are consistently available.

The 11th Annual CACM Winter Wonderland Trade Show and Law Seminar was held on February 4 & 5 at the Oakland Marriott Center. Here's a recap from attendee Edward Warren, who is currently working toward his CACM certification.

The CACM Winter Wonderland Trade Show and Law Seminar was a true eye opener. Being new to the CID industry, I was surprised to learn of its expansiveness. It was amazing to learn how such a wide range of professionals have come to together to form such an exciting and innovative industry.

During this informative two days, I was introduced to pertinent legislation that has enhanced my understanding of how policies affect the Property Manager. In addition, I was navigated through the insurance claim process, from reporting to litigation, acquiring an understanding that would have been more difficult to grasp from just reading the literature.

I found especially valuable, my opportunity to interact with co-workers, other colleagues in the industry, as well as vendors. I appreciate this opportunity, as I am convinced that the productive interaction as well as the knowledge gained will be extremely beneficial to my future success here at Citiscape.

Doctors Without Borders

Friends and colleagues:

I had the great pleasure of spending the week of my daughter Allyson’s wedding in Mexico this past December with my favorite Nephew, Jordan. We shared a hotel room, and hung out the whole week. A great young man who for the past several years has volunteered full time all over the world for Doctors Without Borders. He is a Logistics Field Manager, getting medical supplies and equipment into ravaged parts of the planet and scheduling doctors and nurses from all over the world who donate a week, or a month, of their time to treat the world’s poorest and neediest in some of the harshest places on earth.

Jordan’s assignment for this past year has been Port-au-Prince, Haiti, which as you probably know was just devastated by a huge earthquake. The hospital where he was working yesterday collapsed. I e-mailed him hoping against hope that he was O.K. His short reply to me is below.

If you are able, you can donate $5, or $10, $25, or $100 to this non-denominational, non-partisan volunteer organization that does so much for the weakest people on earth. And boy do they need help now. You can donate in honor of someone, perhaps a loved one, or you can donate in the name of Jordan Wiley. Whoever you donate in the name of will get an e-card with every donation, which, if it’s Jordan, I’m sure will warm his heart in what must be hell on earth at this moment.

Allyson Wiley and Nigel Weekes were married on the beach in San Jose Del Cabo on December 5^th! Attendees in the weeklong celebration included her Dad, CitiScape President Kevin Wiley, and CitiScape partners Ed Dale and Robert Simms, and Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman (true story!), as well as friends and family from every corner of the earth.
